Are you looking to take your health journey to the next level? Sometimes, reading a book or watching a lecture isn’t enough. To truly understand a lifestyle, you have to immerse yourself in it.
That’s exactly what a group of dedicated individuals did when they joined Dr. Douglas Graham’s Intern Program in the heart of Costa Rica. We sat down with several participants, Pia, Sarah, Frederik, Jazz, and Thomas—to hear about their experiences, the challenges of the raw food lifestyle, and the life-changing lessons they’re taking home.
More Than Just a Diet
The program is far from a typical vacation. It is a rigorous, holistic experience designed to build a strong foundation for long-term health. Participants engage in a daily rhythm that includes:
Early Morning Fitness: From strength training to group walks, staying active with Dr. Graham is a core privilege of the program.
Hands-on Kitchen Education: Interns aren't just eating; they are preparing meals together. They learn the "why" behind food combining, optimal meal sequencing, and how to create delicious raw dishes that are actually sustainable for the long haul.
Deep-Dive Learning: Between meals and workouts, interns participate in educational sessions focused on the science of the 80/10/10 lifestyle and natural hygiene.
Why They Joined
Each intern arrived with a unique motivation. Pia, a flight attendant from Germany, wanted to escape the stress of the world and learn how to explain the "why" behind raw nutrition to others. Sarah, a personal trainer from Colorado, sought to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application to better serve her own clients.
For many, the program was a chance to "reset." As Jazz perfectly put it: "I think everybody should be living like this. It’s a great lifestyle... it’s a very good environment to grow, to heal, and to learn."
Is It Right for You?
The consensus among the group? This program isn’t for the casual observer—it’s for those who are truly passionate about their health. It requires stepping out of your comfort zone, embracing a new schedule, and being open to the discipline required to maintain a raw food lifestyle.
As Thomas, a veteran of the raw food movement with 16 years of experience, notes: being surrounded by like-minded people in a tropical setting creates an atmosphere that you simply cannot replicate at home.
